Everyone has a few bad habits, everyone wants to save money and most people attempt a New Year’s resolution each year. Here is a list of the top habits to bust this year which will give you more benefits than you might realize:
1. Get rid of the fast food. It might be easy and cheap, but once you compare it with the healthcare costs, obesity problems and additional risks, it is one of the most expensive and deadly habits.
2. Stop worrying. Easier said than done, but taking steps to reduce anxiety and stress can change your life drastically. Untreated anxiety disorders cost the US economy about $42 million every year.
3. Go to the doctor and the dentist. Untreated dental and medical problems only makes them worse leading to higher expenses and more complicated to treat.
4. Limit or eliminate alcohol. The liquor bill at the bar is only the initial expense of drinking. When you add in the medical bills, insurance, and even DWI charges, it is a bad habit that can be extremely costly.
5. Limit salt intake. Simply taste your food before you salt it. Think twice about picking up the salt. A high sodium diet can lead to heart failure, additional medical costs and an increase in insurance.
6. Go to sleep. Living on less sleep is a stepping stone for various health problems including obesity, anxiety, and higher health costs.
7. Stick to the speed limits. According to Fueleconomy.gov estimates that speeding can cost you additional $0.20 per gallon for gas when you combine the lack of fuel economy with a possible accident, speeding ticket and insurance increase.
8. Turn off the lights. Leaving just one light bulb on for an extra 12 hours a day can cost $3.50 a month, or $40 every year.
9. Vacuum at least once a week. Vacuuming picks up dirt, hair and dust off of your floor. Daily allergy pills can cost you $250/year.
10. Clean your bathroom. The bathroom holds the most bacteria of any room in the house, and a dirty bathroom is more likely to cause your family members to be sick more often.
Bonus: Review your insurance policies. Evaluating insurance policies can save you money and ensure that you have the necessary coverage you need.
