Many consumers don’t understand the benefits that come with the insurance policies they already own. Oftentimes, an individual or family will look for identity theft coverage when it is already included in their homeowners policy, or they may purchase additional rental car insurance when it might be included in their current auto policy.
 Part of the problem is most consumers do not adequately read through and review their policies each year as recommended. Here are examples of a few things that are most likely covered under your current policies. Be sure to check with your local insurance agent to confirm coverage in all circumstances.
Homeowners Insurance
Homeowners insurance covers more than your home. Many homeowners policies also cover scenarios such as:
- Your home computer gets a virus that destroys all personal data
- Someone steals your golf clubs out of your car
- You lose your wedding ring
- Someone steals your keys and you need to replace your locks
- Someone is bit by the family dog
- Basic identity-theft coverage
- Vandalism of a tombstone
Auto Insurance
While Auto insurance will cover you if you or your vehicle is injured or damaged in an accident, it may also come with some of these hidden perks:
- A ride to the gas station if you run out of gas
- A bail bond if necessary (through specific companies only)
- Identify theft coverage
- Locksmith charges for locking your keys out of your car
- Insurance coverage while driving a rented car
Health Insurance
Health insurance often covers more than hospital bills. For those who take a closer look, they might find many of these additional benefits
- Counseling or therapy appointments once a month or more
- Assistance with programs to quit smoking
- Discounts on gym memberships
- Free nurse lines to talk to a nurse free of charge
- Free or discounted car seats or breast pumps
- Massage or chiropractors appointments
Generally, accidents and coverage is not eligible for coverage if it is malicious, but accidents and incidents due to children often are, so its worth it look.
