A recent survey for Tork, a maker of hygiene products found that 82 percent of consumers pay attention when companies show an eco-friendly initiative, and 80 percent of them are more likely to purchase products and services from a company who meets green standards or certifications. Becoming a green company can boost your sales, cut expenses, and is a lot easier than you may realize.
1. Electronics use up a lot of energy. Get started with energy-efficient PCs and other electronics. Use energy management settings in Windows 7 and Mac operating systems to save even more energy.
2. Experts say that going green and encouraging employee participation in eco-efforts can set a positive example for employees which can boost morale and company loyalty.
3. Going green and protect your company by getting rid of boxes and file cabinets filled with old statements, canceled checks, copies of deposits, etc. By adopting online statements, electronic billing and invoicing will protect valuable financial information while saving paper resources.
4. Going with electronic payments saves time, and gets money faster. Electronic billing is the fastest and most secure way to manage outstanding receivables. Avoid a trip to the bank, send reminders if they payment isn't received by a date you've determined and the money is available as soon as it is paid.
5. No stamps. While the forty-two cents for a stamp might seem minimal, stamps and envelopes can add up over the course of the year. For businesses paying more than a couple bills each month, electronic bill pay saves time and money. Some banks even offer monthly discounts if you switch to online statements.
6. Tax benefits are available for companies who make green changes. Search online for potential tax credits as you're replacing equipment and other infrastructure items.
7. Going green can attract new customers. Many people are becoming more committed to supporting companies who support the environment. Advertise your companies green
policies to attract new customers and create a positive impression and help attract new or repeat business.
8. Make it a public affair. Offer a recycling center in your office for customers to bring batteries, light bulbs, or electronics. Establishing a drop-off for these items can drive foot traffic you’re your business, and generate positive publicity.
9. Consider closing business early, or going to a four-day work-week. This may be more difficult for direct-sellers, but offices can often work four-days a week by holding office hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and save energy and enjoy a three-day weekend.
10. Talk to your business insurance agent about possible discounts for using energy efficient electronics, participating in recycling programs, or switching to electronic billing systems. These can reduce company risk, and may be eligible for insurance discounts on your policy.
